Sign is een multidisciplinair en experimenteel podium voor jonge actuele kunst, variërend van kunst 'an sich' tot maatschappelijk geëngageerd.
Sign heeft een continu programma van tentoonstellingen en projecten in haar ruimte, op locatie en op straat. Aan bod komen o.a. films, installaties, work in progress, nieuwe en 'oude' media, publieksparticipatie, scenography , interactieve en environmental art, performances, video, Videoskoop, audio-visueel, artist in residence en samenwerkingen met kunstenaars, andere initiatieven en organisaties

Sign wil komende jaren de esthetische en ethische grenzen expliciet aftasten die in de kunst, kunstwereld en de maatschappij gangbaar lijken te zijn, immers in die marge is de vraagstelling het meest uitgesproken.
Meerduidigheid, tegenstelling herwaardering en het verleggen van grenzen vinden hier plaats. Er zal derhalve niet gestreefd worden naar presentaties die een afspiegeling zijn van conventies en verwachte esthetische oordelen over kunst. De traditionele rol van tentoonstellingsruimte willen we meer loslaten
Sign wil op zoek naar andere vormen waarin kunst kan communiceren met de samenleving, waarbij kunst een actuele ervaring wordt en een vitaliserende werking heeft. De bewegingsruimte en vrijheid van de kunstenaars worden nagestreeft (en die van Sign) om tot een zo goed mogelijk, niet afgevlakt, fris resultaat te komen..

In de projecten, presentaties zullen in de komende jaren een of meerdere van de volgende inhoudelijke facetten aan de orde komen:

1- Vermenging en gelaagdheid van high en low culture, van 'elitaire' kunst en alledaags bestaan
2.- De identiteit van een ruimte, van Sign zelf en op locatie, door funktie en betekenis verandering
3.- Perfomatieve installaties, scenografische projecten, sociaal geëngageerde projecten waarbij direct contact is met publiek.
4.- Kunstuitingen die de diffuse grens behandelen tussen realiteit en de wereld zoals die waargenomen wordt via nieuwe technologische middelen en hoe dit het ervaren van de werkelijkheid beinvloedt.
5.- Interventies in de openbare ruimte, mogelijk verbonden hieraan (il)legale grenzen van kunst.
6.- Projecten waarbij organisatorisch en artistiek inhoudelijk samengewerkt wordt met kunstenaars. Het kunstenaarschap is tegenwoordig breder dan het maken van een 'product'. De ideeen breiden zich uit met samenwerkingsvormen, sociale aspecten (intern met vakgenoten, extern met publiek ) en curatorschap in het project verweven. Deze uitbreiding is vaak onderdeel van de inhoud en direct gelinkt aan de ideeen over kunst en het funktioneren daarvan.

In coming years Sign wants to scan explicitly the boundaries of esthetics and ethics which appear to be regarded as granted within art, the world of art and society. Around these boundaries questioning looks most outspoken. Multiple layers of meaning, contradiction, revaluating and expanding boundaries take place there. Therefore the aim is not to strive for presentations which are a reflection of conventions and expected esthetical judgment on art. We want to leave behind more the traditional role of exhibiting space. Sign wants to search for other forms in which art can communicate with society and becomes a present experience and has a vitalizing action. The space to act and the freedom of the artists (and that of Sign) are being strived for to achieve an as good as possible, not flattend, fresh result.

In projects and presentations in coming years one or more facets of content will be coming up for discussion:
1- Mixing and layering of high and low culture, of ‘elite’ art and everyday existence.
2- Identity of space, both of Sign and on location, by change of function and meaning
3- ‘Performative’ installations, scenographic projects, socially committed projects with direct contacting the audience
4- Ways of art that deal with the diffuse border of reality and the way the world is observed by new technological means and how this influences experiencing reality.
5- Interventions in public space possibly connected to the (il)legal limits of art
6- Projects in which both organizational and artistically in contents will be collaborated wirh artists. Nowadays being a artist means more than only making a ‘product’. Ideas are enlarged with forms of collaboration, social aspects (internally with colleagues and externally with the audience) and curating interwoven. This enlargement is often a part of content and linked directly to ideas on art and functioning of art.
