After
two weeks of doing all the preparations for the artist in residence,
the artists finally arrived at the first of August. They came in the
evening and we had a good diner and talked about the coming project.
The following days everybody biked around the city and started to investigate
the surrounding. In the evenings we had presentations about our earlier
works. We had drinks, peanuts, cigarettes and music and talked about
our work and other things. After a few days the groupchemisty started
to work. Every night a different person cooks diner for the rest of
the group and till now we've got really nice food on the table. For a day by day diary, click here >>

Wouter and Elke, We're doing a research of boathouses resorts. It's interesting to see the way the inhabitants of these places are building. It seems that the inhabitants got more freedom to play around with the design of their houses and with the surrounding.

Birgit, Focusing on adaption and repeating – these are main characters of Groningen’s appearance to me. The moods in the city center and in the suburbs are similar: organized and ruled. Where / what is the unexpected / the surprise?

Christoph, Even shortly before touching the city the impulse of building something, that gives a devastated feeling arouses. In
the first days travelling through the city with a bike. No certain destination
in mind. Gliding slowly. Taking pictures with my eyes. Listening to the
wind. Like throwing a stone somewhere, then following it. And throwing
it again. Finding spots within the city, that themselves have that devastated
feeling.

Eric, Arrived
at 7:30 after missing a short connection in Almsfoort Groningen- the most northern region of the Netherlands and as many say, er gaat niets boven Groningen! (there is nothing above Groningen). This we will see for ourselves - Marie Jeanne and Claus have invited the group for an excursion aboard their ship. At the edge of the sea rest Lauwers Oog - a village with a small fleet of fisherman. Would they know something about the migrating schools of King Crabs? In an experiment to provide a new staple for the western Russia, Stalin devised a plan to introduce these King crabs that are now migrating at surprising rates westward and even south along tidal flows. These crabs are a delicacy but there is concern because they are devouring large amounts of the biomass along the sea floor.
